Providence, R.I. - Sophomore guard Dyami Starks scored 16 of his game high 25 points in the second half to lead Bryant to a 68-61 win over Brown at the Pizzitola Sports Center. Brown falls to 2-2 with the loss, while Bryant extends its record to 2-2 overall.
Brown freshman forward Cedric Kuakumensah scored a career high 14 points to lead the Bears, connecting 6-of-8 shots from the field. He completed the double-double by grabbing 11 rebounds. Kuakumensah also blocked four shots, which rank 10th in the Brown record book.
Bears' junior All-Ivy guard Sean McGonagill also had 14 points, while sophomore forward Rafael Maia just missed a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds. Senior guard Matt Sullivan finished with eight points and six rebounds.
Starks' 25 points came on 8-of-16 shooting from the field and 7-of-8 shooting from the free throw line. Junior forward Alex Francis was also a force for the Bulldogs with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Bryant lead at the half, 35-24, doing most of its damage from inside the paint with Brown's big man, Maia, limited to just eight minutes because of foul trouble. Francis scored 12 first half points, all in the lane, for the Bulldogs.
The Bears made a run at the Bulldogs and pulled to within four points, 56-52, on two free throws by Sullivan with 4:57 left in the game. But Bryant quickly went ahead by eight points, 61-53, with 2:12 left on a free throw by senior Frankie Dobbs.
The closest Brown was able to get down the stretch was five points, 66-61, on a lay-up by Kuakumensah with six seconds left.
The Bears are home again on Saturday, November 24, hosting St. Francis (NY) in a matinee start (2:00 p.m.) at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
