Brown Basketball Schedule Features Home Match-up With Providence

Providence, Rhode Island – First-year Brown head coach Mike Martin has released his team's 2012-13 men's basketball schedule, featuring games against two NCAA Tournament teams, five teams who earned post-season tournament berths, and a match-up against cross-town rival Providence College at the Pizzitola Sports Center, facing the Friars at home for the first time since 1972.

"We're extremely excited about the challenges that await us this season," said Martin.  "Our non-conference schedule will prepare us well for what should be another extremely competitive Ivy League.  The opportunity for our group to play Providence College in our gym will be a special night for us and should prove to be a tremendous environment in the Pizzitola Sports Center.  In addition, games against Notre Dame and Northwestern in the Midwest will be great for our Chicago natives to play in front of friends and family."

Brown's 13-game home schedule is highlighted with a match-up against Providence on December 28 at the Pizzitola Sports Center.  The Bears and Friars last met on the Brown campus on March 9, 1972 at Marvel Gymnasium, a 72-61 Friars win. Arnie Berman scored 28 points to lead the Bears, while Ernie DiGregorio tossed in 28 points for the Friars.

The Bears open their season with three straight non-league road games, with Martin making his head coaching debut at Binghamton on Sunday, November 11. The Bears will also play non-league games against Central Connecticut St. (11/15), Maine (11/17), New Hampshire (12/1), Notre Dame (12/8), Northwestern (12/23), Albany (12/31) and inter-state rival Rhode Island (1/4) at the Ryan Center.

Brown tips-off its home schedule at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Wednesday, November 21, hosting Bryant. The Bears will also compete in non-league home games against St. Francis-NY (11/24), Sacred Heart (11/29), Niagara (1/8) and Daniel Webster (1/12).

Ivy League action starts at home on Saturday, January 19 against Yale, followed by five straight league road games. Additional Ivy home games will be played against Columbia (2/15), Cornell (2/16), defending Ivy League Champion Harvard (2/22), Dartmouth (2/23), Penn (3/8) and Princeton (3/9). Last year's game against Harvard produced a sellout at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
