Brown Basketball Announces 2010-2011 Team Awards

Providence, Rhode Island - Head coach Jesse Agel announced the Brown men's basketball annual team award recipients at the annual team picnic on Saturday, May 7. Eight different team awards were presented to nine recipients.


The Woody Grimshaw Memorial Award is named in honor of former Brown player Woody Grimshaw, who was also a long-time successful basketball coach at Tufts. It is presented annually to that member of the team showing the most positive attitude and the best spirit. 2011 Award Recipient:  Chris Taylor '11 (# 1) from Plymouth, Minnesota


The Jim Turner '86 Award is presented to the member of the team who, through hard work and dedication, has improved the most throughout the year. 2011 Award Recipient:  Tucker Halpern '13 (#33) from Brookline, Massachusetts


The Thomas Hoagland '63 Award is presented to the member of the varsity team who exemplifies true unselfishness through commitment and hard work both on the court and in the community:

2011 Award Recipient:  Josh Biber '14 (#2) from Lorain, Ohio


The Bernard V. Buonanno, Jr. '60 Award is given to that member of the varsity team who, through dedication in the classroom and on the court, has exemplified the true meaning of the scholar-athlete. 2011 Award Recipient:  Garrett Leffelman '11 (# 31) from Naperville, Illinois


The J. Richmond Fales Trophy is awarded to that member of the team who, through sportsmanship, performance and influence, has contributed the most to the sport at Brown. 2011 Award Co-Recipients:  Tucker Halpern '13 (#33) from Brookline, MA, and  Sean McGonagill '14 (#22) from Brookfield, Illinois


The Dave Zucconi '55 Unsung Hero Award was established in 2004 as a tribute to Brown University's most beloved alumnus. It is presented to that team member who, through his extraordinary efforts, strength of character, and dogged determination, epitomizes Dave's selfless efforts on behalf of Brown Basketball. 2011 Award Recipient:  Adrian Williams '11 (# 11) from Atlanta, Georgia


The Stan Ward Award is named in honor of former Brown head coach Stan Ward, and is given to the player who, in a quiet, unobtrusive way, contributes the most to the team. 2011 Award Recipient:  Matt Sullivan '13 (# 14) from Wilmette, Illinois


The Rusty Tyler '71 Coaches Award is presented to the member of the team who, through total dedication and loyalty, has given the most for the good of the team. 2011 Award Recipient:  Peter Sullivan '11 (# 25) from Wilmette, Illinois
