Mullery and McCarthy Named Ivy League Player and Rookie of the Week
Providence, Rhode Island - Brown senior center Matt Mullery
(Millstone, NJ) was named the Ivy League Player of the Week and
freshman forward Andrew McCarthy (Sudbury, MA) has been named the
Ivy League Rookie of the Week for their play in games last week
against Rhode Island, St. John’s and Maine.
In tough games against the Rams, Red Storm and Black Bears, Mullery
averaged over 16 points per game and shot 19 of 29 (.655) from the
field. He registered a double-double against URI with 10 points and
11 rebounds with three assists. He came back against St. John's
with 16 points, 3 rebounds and three steals. He led the Bears to a
win over Maine, 75-62, with 24 points, five rebounds and four
assists.
Mullery is Brown’s leading scorer (15.8 ppg) and rebounder
(5.6 rebounds per game), and recently set a new Brown career record
for blocked shots (124).
McCarthy had a big week for the Bears, scoring 8 points, blocking a
shot and grabbing 3 rebounds against Rhode Island. He then scored
11 points, pulled down 6 rebounds and block two shots in Brown's
close loss to St. John's in NYC (79-76). He came back in Brown's
win over Maine to score 10 points, grab six rebounds, and block two
shots against the Black Bears.
McCarthy is averaging 8.6 points per game for the Bears, and ranks
second in rebounding (4.4 per game).
Brown will be back in action again on Wednesday (11/25), traveling
to Smithfield, Rhode Island to play Bryant. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
