Bears Fall To URI, 78-57

Rhode Island’s tenacious defense proved to be too much for
Brown, scoring 34 points off turnovers, as the Rams pulled away
from a one point half time lead to defeat the Bears, 78-57, before
a near sellout crowd of 2,695 at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
Brown trailed the Rams, 31-30, at the completion of a frenetic
first half where the Bears out-rebounded the Rams by a 26-14
margin. Rhode Island led by as many as seven points, 29-22, with
3:08 left in the half. Three-point baskets by Brown juniors Adrian
Williams and Peter Sullivan, plus a lay-up by freshman Tucker
Halpern helped cut the URI lead to just one point at the half.
Rhode Island exploded at the outset of the second half, outscoring
the Bears, 33-10, to grab a 63-40 lead with 9:30 remaining on a
dunk by Delroy James.
Junior Peter Sullivan led Brown with 15 points, while senior Matt
Mullery registered a double-double for the Bears, scoring 10 points
and puling down a game high 11 rebounds. Freshman Andrew McCarthy
added eight points for Brown.
Four URI players scored in double figures, with Keith Cothran
scoring a game high 16 points for the Rams. Jamal Wilson netted 14
points, while Will Martel grabbed a team best nine rebounds.
The Bears are back in action again on Friday, November 20,
traveling to Queens, New York, to battle St. John’s in the
second game of the Philly Hoop Group Classic. Game time is 7:00
p.m. at Carnesecca Arena.
