Brown Travels To Virginia Tech For Opener of Philly Hoop Group Classic
After opening its season with a 68-64 win over Virginia Tech on
Friday, Brown will travel to Blacksburg, Virginia to face Virginia
Tech on Sunday, November 15, in the opener of the Philly Hoop Group
Classic. The match-up between the Bears and the Hokies will be the
second ever between the two schools.
Brown (1-0) opened its season Friday evening (11/13) in Brooklyn,
New York against St. Francis, and came away with a come-from-behind
win over the Terriers. Sophomore guard Jean-Herbert Harris scored a
career high 18 points on perfect 7 of 7 shooting from the field,
while senior All-Ivy center Matt Mullery scored 16 points,
connecting on 8 of 9 field goals. The Virginia Tech Hokies will be
playing their season opener against the Bears.
Mullery tied his own single game record for blocked shots with six
blocks against St. Francis. With the six blocks, he also
established a new school record for career blocked shots with 121,
surpassing the previous mark of 119 blocked shots by Alai
Nuualiitia from 1999-2003.
Brown boasts the nation’s third longest winning streak with
three straight wins, dating back to last season, capturing its
final two games of 2008-2009 regular season, and its first game
this season. The Ivy League is the only conference in the nation
without a post-season tournament. NCAA Champion North Carolina has
won eight consecutive games and NIT Champion Penn State has
captured seven straight games.
