Defending Ivy Champion Bears Announce 2008 Baseball Schedule

Dec. 3, 2007

Providence, RI - Brown University Head Baseball Coach Marek Drabinski announced his team's 2008 schedule on Monday. The defending Ivy League Champion Bears, fresh off the program's first-ever trip to an NCAA Regional, are scheduled to play 47 games in 2008, including 17 at Murray Stadium.

Brown's season will begin on February 29, when the Bears open a four-game set with Conference-USA opponent Alabama-Birmingham, with a three-game series at SEC power Florida to follow the week after.

After two weeks of practice, Bruno will head south once again for its typically busy Spring Break trip. The trip will open with a game in North Carolina against Hartford on Saturday, March 22, with a doubleheader against UNC-Asheville on Sunday. The Bears will then play one game at Campbell of the Atlantic Sun Conference, a doubleheader at Duke, and single games at Richmond and George Mason over the next four days.

Brown will then head north from Virginia to begin the Ivy League season on March 29, beginning with doubleheaders at Columbia and Penn. The Bears' first home games of the season will be on April 2, when Rhode Island comes to Murray Stadium for a doubleheader for the unofficial state title. Those contests will be two of 12 home games in a 13-game stretch, as Princeton (4/5), Cornell (4/6), Maine (4/9), and Dartmouth (4/12-13) come to Providence for doubleheaders, while the Bears travel to Quinnipiac on April 8 for a single game.

In the regular season's final two weeks, the Bears will play non-conference foes Marist (4/15), Connecticut (4/16), Holy Cross (4/23), and Central Connecticut State (4/29), staying ready for all-important Ivy sets at Harvard (4/19-20), and against Yale (4/25-26).
