Brown third baseman Jeff Nichols (Medford, NJ) was named an Honorable Mention Freshman All-American selection on the "Louisville Slugger's" Freshman All-American Baseball Team.

Nichols earned Second Team All-Ivy honors after his impressive freshman campaign on the field during the 2002 season. He started all but one of Brown's 49 games, hitting .299 for the season. Nichols led the team in walks (25), finished second on the team in on-base percentage (.406), and had the third-most home runs (5). He was also fourth in runs batted in (33), and fifth on the team in hits (46), runs scored (31), and slugging percentage (.448).

In the field, Nichols recorded a .926 fielding percentage, including 28 putouts and 85 assists.

The Bears (25-24, 13-7) set the school record for wins this season with 25 and finished tied for first place in the Ivy League's Red Rolfe Division.
