Providence, RI - Brown catcher Devin Thomas (Gainesville, FL) was honored yet again on Wednesday for his record-breaking 2007 season, as he was named to the ECAC Division I All-Star Team. Thomas, the Ivy League Player of the Year, broke Brown single-season records for home runs (16), runs (64), and runs batted in (51).
During this post-season, Thomas has also been named First Team All-Ivy, First Team All-Northeast, and First-Team All-New England. He ranks in the top 10 all-time at Brown for games played, at-bats, hits, runs, doubles, triples, home runs, RBIs, extra-base hits, total bases and slugging percentage. Thomas finished the season ranked fifth in the country with an average of 1.33 RBI-per-game, 14th in home runs-per-game (0.33), 15th in slugging percentage (.729), and 31st in total home runs (16).
Thomas became Brown's highest drafted player since 1974 when he was chosen in the seventh round of the MLB First-Year Player Draft by the Detroit Tigers. In 27 games so far with the short-season Class A Oneonta Tigers, Thomas is hitting .240 with five home runs, 24 RBIs, and 16 runs scored. His home run and RBI totals are both good for third in the New York-Penn League.
