Brown senior second baseman Bobby Deeb (West St. Paul, MN) has signed as a free agent with the Chicago Cubs organization. Deeb, who is Brown's all-time hits leader, will first head to Mesa, AZ to join the Mesa Cubs, the rookie league affiliate of the Chicago Cubs.
Deeb broke the all-time hits as well as the runs scored records earlier this past season. In 179 games, he tallied a record 223 hits and 167 runs. He also ranks second all-time with 48 doubles and fourth all-time with 63 stolen bases at Brown. A four-time All-Ivy selection, he batted .313 on the year with a team-high 14 doubles. In Ivy play, Deeb averaged .360 at the plate with 18 runs and 14 RBI. His 27 hits in league play were sixth in the conference. He also led the team with 10 stolen bases.
He was named a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball back in 2001 when he broke the Ivy League record for hits by a rookie. A two-year tri-captain, Deeb ranked second in hits in the Ivy League last season and first in runs and stolen bases. He has batted over .300 in all four of his years with the Bears.
