Daniels Leads Contingent of Three Bears at Fenway Park for NEIBA All-Star Game
June 16, 2008
Providence, RI - Brown rising senior Steve Daniels (Fox Point, WI) was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored, leading a group of three Brown players at Saturday's New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association All-Star Game at Fenway Park. Daniels, recent graduate Conor Reardon (Branford, CT), and rising sophomore Matt Colantonio (Garden City, NY) all played for the University Division (D-I), which lost to the College Division (D-II and III), 6-3.
Daniels entered as a defensive replacement in center field in the top of the sixth, with the Division I squad down, 6-0. He came to the plate in the bottom of the inning with runners on first and second with one out, driving in the team's first run with a single up the middle. After stealing second, he scored what would be the final run of the game on a single by Dartmouth's Michael Pagliarulo. In his other at-bat, he flew out to right field to lead off the eighth.
Reardon started the game at designated hitter, drawing a walk in the second and grounding out to second base in the fifth before leaving the game. Colantonio, who was added to the team as an alternate, entered the game at catcher in the sixth. He struck out looking in the seventh and grounded out in the ninth.
Defensively, Daniels recorded two putouts in center, while Colantonio had five behind the dish.
