Baseball Drops 5-2 Decision to UVM
The Brown Bears dropped their home opener on Tuesday, falling to the University of Vermont Catamounts 5-2 in the first game of a doubleheader.
Vermont jumped on Brown starter Jamie Grillo for two runs in the first inning and touched him up for two more in the fourth. Grillo struck out eight in five innings of work, getting his first seven outs by strikeout.
Brown cut into the 2-0 lead in the second, with Shaun Gallagher scoring after doubling to deep right field. However, Brown managed only a single run more, scoring one in the sixth after Dan Kantrovitz doubled and scored on a ground out by Greg Metzger.
Brown had a chance to win the game in the seventh, but Vermont closer Doug Thompson got the Bears' Todd Iarussi to foul out with bases loaded.
Kantrovitz continued his hot ways at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a run scored and a pair of doubles.
