Dietz Named Ivy League Preseason Pitcher of the Year by Collegiate Baseball
Jan. 8, 2007
Junior pitcher Jeff Dietz (Altamonte Springs, FL) was named the Ivy League Preseason Pitcher of the Year in the most recent issue of Collegiate Baseball. Dietz, who also plays first base when he's not on the mound, was 3-1 with a 2.73 earned-run average in Ivy League play last season. That ERA was good for eighth in the conference. In 29.2 innings, he had 31 strikeouts, good for second in the Ancient Eight, and just five walks, holding Ivy batters to a .235 average.
In 44.0 overall innings, Dietz went 4-3, with a 6.14 ERA. He had 40 strikeouts and 20 walks. The versatile righty started five games came in from the bullpen in eight others, throwing one complete game and notching one save. Dietz was no slouch at the plate either, hitting .364, good for second on the Bears, hitting four home runs and driving in 33 runs, scoring 20 himself as well.
In the publication's season preview, the Bears were projected to finish second in the Red Rolfe Division, behind Harvard. Brown's season begins March 2, at the Georgia Southern Eagle Invitational.
