Providence, RI - Brown junior Jeff Dietz (Altamonte Springs, FL) scattered three hits and two walks over nine innings as the Brown baseball team won the first game of the Ivy League Championship Series, 1-0, over Penn. Dietz also drove in the game's lone run on a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning, as sophomore Steve Daniels (Fox Point, WI) tagged and scored on a shallow foul pop-up to the right side.
Dietz out-dueled Penn freshman Todd Roth, who also threw a complete game, allowing six hits and three walks with striking out three batters. Only one of Roth's walks was unintentional.
