Bears Split with Pioneers

The baseball team split a doubleheader with the Sacred Heart Pioneers today at Aldrich-Dexter field on the campus of Brown University. The Bears are now 15-27-1 as they head into their final weekend of play.
In game one Brown sophomore James Lowe (Asheboro, NC) hit a homer in the bottom of the fourth making the score 6-2 in favor of the Pioneers. Freshman Bobby Wiginton (Fresno, CA) scored the final run for the Bears, he had one hit in the game as Brown fell 7-3.
Junior Jason Priede (Tampa, FL) struck-out seven batters, pitching in five innings at relief for Brown. Priede relieved senior Justin Lebowitz (Aberdeen, NJ) who saw action on the mound in two innings and struck-out three batters.
Junior Matt Kutler (Omaha, NE) drilled three doubles in game two as the Bears defeated the Pioneers 8-3. Kutler drove in two runs and scored two on his own in the victory. Freshman Paul Christian (Chapel Hill, NC) hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth putting the bears up 6-2.
Junior Bobby Deeb (West St. Paul, MN) and sophomore Chris Jernigan (Miami, FL) both had two hits in the win, Jernigan drove in one run as Deeb scored two.
Junior Harris Frankel (Marietta, GA) pitched in six innings facing 25 batters and giving up just two runs. Frankel was relieved by freshman left-hander Cameron Johnson (Berkeley, CA) who pitched in the final inning of the game for the Bears.
Brown, 5-11 in Ivy play, will host Yale this Friday, May 2 in a doubleheader starting at noon, and will travel to Yale the next day for a second doubleheader.
