Baseball Drops Two Games to Vermont

BURLINGTON, VT - The Brown baseball team fell 4-2 and 10-3 to the University of Vermont in a doubleheader on Wednesday at Centennial Field.
In game one, the Bears fell behind 3-0 when the Catamounts posted three runs in the bottom of the third inning. Brown (20-19, 8-4 Ivy) answered with two runs in the top of the fourth as the Bears got singles from freshman James Lowe (Asheboro, NC), sophomore Matt Kutler (Omaha, NE) and freshman Jeff Nichols (Medford, NJ).
However, Vermont (18-13) added a run in the bottom of the fourth and held the Bears scoreless the rest of the way to earn a 4-2 victory.
Nichols and Kutler each had two hits apiece in game one to lead the Bears offensively.
Sophomore Sam Jennings (New Ashford, MA) (2-4) suffered the loss on the hill as he went the distance for the Bears, allowing four runs on four hits while striking out four.
In game two, the Bears were held to four hits and struggled defensively as they dropped a10-3 decision to the Catamounts.
Freshmen Adam Royster (Bethesda, MD), Will Cebron (La Jolla, CA), Lowe and senior Greg Metzger (Trumbull, CT) each had one hit for the Bears.
Freshman Eli Friedman (Pittsburgh, PA) (2-3) took the loss as he went two innings and gave up two earned runs on three hits while striking out two.
The Bears return to action on Saturday and Sunday April 27-28 for two crucial Rolfe Division doubleheaders with the Harvard Crimson in Cambridge, MA.
