Providence, RI - Senior Paul Christian's base-clearing double in the eighth inning lifted Brown to a 7-4 victory over Quinnipiac at Aldrich Field on Wednesday afternoon. With the bases loaded and the scored tied at 4-4, Christian hit one deep to left center to give the Bears their tenth victory of the season. He finished the day 4-5 with two doubles, a triple and a homerun.
Each team got a run in the third inning as Quinnipiac's Jeff Mainetti hit a solo shot to right center and Christian eventually scored on a Danny Hughes single after tripling to left center.
Brown then took a 4-1 lead with three runs in the fifth off four hits, including a solo homer by Christian, his seventh of the season and 31st of his career. He now needs just two more to break the school record. A single by sophomore Jeff Dietz and a double by junior Devin Thomas drove in Brown's other two runs of the inning.
The Bobcats knotted things up at 4-4 with a three-run homer in the seventh by Wilson Matos but Brown was apply to break the tie in the eighth after sophomore Ryan Murphy led off the inning with a bunt single. Sophomore J.J. Eno then reached base after being hit by a pitch and freshman Steve Daniels followed up with another bunt single to load up the bases for Christian.
Sophomore Rob Hallberg picked up the win on the mound, pitching two innings of scoreless relief. He allowed just one hit and struck out two. Freshman Joey Rued pitched a solid six innings, allowing just one run and striking out seven.
Brown will complete its game against Rhode Island last week that was called after four innings tomorrow at Aldrich Field. The game will now go to nine innings and will pick up in the top of the fifth with the Rams leading 9-6.
