Hanover, N.H. - Brown dropped the first two games of a four-game series against Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon, ending the Bears' streak of five consecutive wins. The Big Green took both contests by a final margin of 5-2, as the pitching was solid for both sides. With the losses, Brown falls to 12-14-1, while Dartmouth improves to 13-9.
In the first contest, Dartmouth got on the board quickly, striking for a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Sophomore starter Mark Gormley (Milton, MA) settled down after the first though, giving up just one run over the next four innings. On the day, Gormley allowed five runs, though just three earned, and struck out a pair.
Offensively, Brown struggled to find a rhythm, as the Bears were held off the scoreboard until the third inning. Sophomore Pete Greskoff (Paoli, PA) brought in the first run for Bruno in that frame on an RBI single, cutting the deficit to 2-1. However, from that point on the Bears would score just once more, on an RBI groundout from Matt Nuzzo (Everett, MA), while Dartmouth put up three more runs to take the 5-2 victory.
The second game again featured strong pitching, as sophomore Conor Burke (Andover, MA) shut out Dartmouth for the first three innings. However, Brown also struggled at the plate, as the Bears couldn't capitalize on Burke's outing. The Big Green did eventually break through for two runs in the fourth, taking a 2-0 lead. Bruno answered in their half of the fifth with back-to-back doubles to cut the lead in half, but Dartmouth added one run each in the fifth, sixth, and seventh frames to pull away as Brown could once again muster just two runs, falling 5-2.
The Bears will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, when they take on Dartmouth in another doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m.
