Bryant Scores Three in Sixth to Down Bears 4-3

Smithfield, R.I. - The Bears fell to Bryant University 4-3 on Thursday afternoon as the Bulldogs scored four runs over the sixth and seventh innings for a comeback win. Senior Dan Shapiro (Basking Ridge, N.J.) brought home a run on an RBI single in the eighth, attempting to spark a comeback, but Bruno couldn't capitalize. With the loss, the Bears fall to 7-12-1 on the season.
Brown struck the initial blow, scoring one run in both the third and fourth inning for an early 2-0 lead. Junior starter Matt Boylan (Danvers, MA) shut out the Bulldogs for the first two frames before giving way to the bullpen, allowing the Bears to gain the first advantage. Seniors Steve Daniels (Fox Point, WI) and Rob Papenhause (Hillsborough, CA) each had RBI's in the early going.
The score remained at 2-0 until the bottom of the sixth, when the Bulldogs finally answered with three runs of their own, taking their first lead of the game. Bryant added another score in the seventh, putting them up 4-2. Bruno made one final push in the eighth, with Shapiro's RBI, but Bryant was able to hold on for the win, improving to 20-7.
The Bears will be back in action on Saturday, when they continue Ivy League play with a home doubleheader against Penn, starting at 12:00 p.m.
