HIGH POINT, NC - The Brown baseball team dropped a 4-0 decision to the High Point Panthers on Monday in a game that was a make-up of a contest postponed last weekend due to rain.
Senior pitcher Jon Stern (Long Valley, NJ) suffered his first loss of the season, which dropped his record to 3-1. Stern went five innings, giving up four earned runs on six hits while striking out three.
The Panthers jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first and the game remained that way until the bottom of the fifth when High Point's Ryan Thiede hit a two-out three-run homer to right center to make the score 4-0.
The Bears (6-6) could only manage four hits on the day, as they received one hit apiece from freshman Jeff Nichols (Medford, NJ), sophomore Matt Kutler (Omaha, NE) and seniors John Cappello (Cranston, RI) and Greg Metzger (Trumbull, CT). Nichols has now hit safely in six consecutive games.
Brown will return to action at Elon College on Tuesday, March 26 at 2:30 p.m.
