San Diego, CA - #27 San Diego took the finale of a four-game series with Brown on Monday afternoon, handing the Bears a 10-2 loss. Senior outfielder Steve Daniels (Fox Point, WI) led the way offensively for Brown, going one-for-four with a solo home run. With the loss, Bruno falls to 2-8 on the season, while San Diego improves to 15-10 overall.
Daniels kicked things off quickly, hitting a solo home run to lead off the game, and giving Brown an immediate 1-0 lead. However, the next three batters recorded quick outs for the Bears, ending the inning with the score still 1-0. Sophomore righty Josh Feit (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) got the start for Bruno, and pitched well in the early going, shutting out the Toreros for the first two frames. Overall, Feit gave up six runs over six innings pitched, and struck out a pair.
After trailing for the first two and a half innings, San Diego finally broke through in the bottom of the third, hitting three doubles en route to a three-run frame, taking a lead that they would not relinquish. The Toreros then added one run each in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, giving them a 6-3 lead after Bruno added a score of their own in the fifth. Sophomore Matt Colantonio (Garden City, N.Y.) picked up the RBI, as the run scored on a fielders choice.
Following a scoreless seventh inning, San Diego broke through for four more runs in the bottom of the eighth, giving them the final margin of 10-2. The Bears had one final shot in the ninth inning, but the deficit was too great, and the Toreros held on for the win.
The Bears will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, when they take on Pepperdine at 3:00 p.m. PT.
