COLLEGE PARK, MD - The Brown baseball team suffered a 9-1 loss at the hands of the Maryland Terrapins on Friday afternoon at Shipley Field.
The score stood 1-0 in favor of Maryland after three innings, but the Bears came back to tie the score in the top of the fourth on consecutive doubles off the bats of sophomore Matt Kutler (Omaha, NE) and senior Shaun Gallagher (West Chester, PA). Through four and a half innings, the score was knotted 1-1.
However, the Terps added two runs in the fifth, one in the sixth, and put the game out of reach with a five-run seventh.
Junior right-hander Dan Spring (Washington, D.C.) started on the hill for the Bears and went six and a third innings, giving up six runs on eight hits while striking out three batters.
Gallagher led the Bears offensively as he finished the day 2-4 with an RBI double. Senior Rick Lynn (Towaco, NJ) also went 2-4 with a stolen base and freshman Jeff Nichols (Medford, NJ) was 2-2 with a double.
The Bears (5-3) return to action on Saturday, March 23 at 4:00 p.m. when they take on UNC Wilmington in North Carolina.
