CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sam Grigo (Westbrook, Conn.) drove in four runs and Will Tomlinson (Irvine, Calif.) tossed five scoreless innings as the Brown baseball team topped Harvard, 7-3, in Sunday's series finale at O'Donnell Field.
Brown improves to 8-22 on the season and 4-11 in the Ivy League. Harvard drops to 16-17, 6-6.
Grigo scored three runs in addition to four RBIs, highlighted by his fifth home run of the season. Willy Homza (Anchorage, Alaska) led the team with two hits and Cameron Deere (Los Angeles, Calif.) also drove in a pair of runs.
Tomlinson earned his third win of the season as he gave up just three hits over 5.0 frames with a pair of strikeouts. Kevin Stone was handed the loss on the other side on three earned runs over 6.0 innings as the starter.
Deere gave the Bears an early lead with a two-out RBI single up the middle in the first inning. From there, the two starting pitchers held the opposing offenses off the board for the next three innings, before the Bears scored three runs in the fifth when Grigo launched a three-run homer for the four-run lead.
Brown added two more runs in the seventh when Homza scored on a groundout and Grigo crossed the plate on a wild pitch. Harvard came back with two runs in the bottom half to trim the lead back to four, 6-4.
Garett Delano (Callahan, Fla.) opened the ninth inning with a leadoff triple and then scored on Grigo's sacrifice fly to center field. The Crimson added a solo homer but JJ Sliepka (Houston, Texas) got the final two batters to fly out to seal the win.
Brown will visit Siena on Tuesday before playing a three-game series at Dartmouth next weekend.
