PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Sam Grigo (Westbrook, Conn.) and sophomore Garett Delano (Callahan, Fla.) both hit home runs, but the Brown baseball team fell to Northeastern, 10-4, in midweek play Tuesday at Attanasio Family Field at Murray Stadium.
Brown moves to 7-20 and Northeastern improves to 20-13 on the season.
Delano posted two hits and two runs scored, while Grigo went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Hunter Carey (North Hampton, N.H.) and Joe Lomuscio (West Roxbury, Mass.) had one RBI apiece. Mason Koppens and Jake Farrell recorded three hits apiece to lead the Huskies.
Brian Rodriguez earned the win for Northeastern behind 3.1 scoreless innings. Sophomore Cameron Deere (Los Angeles, Calif.) was handed the loss for the Bears but allowed just one earned run over 4.0 innings of work with no walks.
After three scoreless innings, the Huskies jumped on the board with two runs on a pair of Brown errors in the fourth, and then added a single run in the sixth for the three-run advantage.
Brown scored twice in the bottom half of the sixth, as Carey walked with the bases loaded and Lomuscio was hit the next at-bat, trimming the lead to one, 3-2. Northeastern answered with back-to-back solo homers in the seventh, but Delano responded in the bottom half with a solo home run to deep center field.
Northeastern came back with a pair of home runs in the eighth, including a three-run home run by Farrell, and then added a single run in the ninth for the 10-3 lead. Grigo tacked on a solo shot in the final frame for his fourth home run of the season, but the Huskies kept the Bears off the board from there to seal the win.
Brown will visit Harvard in a three-game series this weekend. Saturday's doubleheader will start at 11:30 AM.
