PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Players on the Brown University baseball team are busy honing their skills this summer, competing at various leagues across the country, while several recent alums have also progressed in the professional ranks.
Rob Henry '17 – Arizona League Brewers
Henry was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 39th round of the 2017 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft and joined the organization in the rookie league, playing 11 games. The All-Ivy outfielder recently hit his first professional home run and has added seven RBIs and seven runs scored.
Christian Taugner – Arizona League Brewers
Taugner was also selected by the Brewers in the 37th round of the MLB Draft and has appeared in the four games as a member of the rookie league. The right-handed pitcher and two-time All-Ivy selection has a 2.70 earned run average to go along with five strikeouts.
J.J. Franco - Kannapolis Intimidators
Franco '14 has played in 10 games for Kannapolis, the single-A affiliate for the Chicago White Sox, after opening the season with the Winston-Salem Dash of the Carolina League. Franco is hitting .300 with the Intimidators with four RBIs and five walks.
Reid Anderson (Newport Gulls - New England Collegiate Baseball League)
Anderson has made six appearances on the mound for Newport, including a pair of starts. He is 3-1 on the season and most recently picked up the victory against the Upper Valley Nighthawks, allowing one earned run over five innings of work.
Dustin Baird (Galion Graders - Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League)
Baird has made eight appearances out of the bullpen for the Galion Graders. He has a 3.72 ERA and has pitched 5.1 innings of scoreless ball over the last three games, including three frames of one-hit relief against Richmond.
Cameron Deere (Walla Walla Sweets – West Coast League)
Deere has played an active role for Walla Walla this summer, playing the infield in addition to nine appearances on the mound. He is 2-1 with 15.1 innings pitched out of the bullpen and has scored 11 runs with a pair of home runs at the plate.
Garett Delano (Valley Blue Sox - New England Collegiate Baseball League)
Delano, a pitcher and outfielder for the Blue Sox, is 2-2 in five starts with 17 strikeouts. He has driven home eight runs at the plate with a pair of home runs in 12 games.
Calvin Farris (Ventura Halos - California Collegiate League)
Farris is batting .286 in nine games played for the Halos, including a pair of doubles, and has also logged time on the mound with 3.2 innings out of the bullpen.
Elliot Ginns (KOA Sports Green Wave - Maryland Collegiate Baseball League)
Ginns has played in 13 games for KOA Sports, playing second base, shortstop and designated hitter, and has three runs scored with two doubles.
Willy Homza (Rockville Rock Hounds - California Collegiate League)
Homza is off to an impressive start as he is batting .378 in 24 games for the Rock Hounds. The infielder leads the team with 31 hits, 17 RBIs and 20 runs, and has also chipped in with three homers.
Rylan Pade (San Francisco Seagulls - Golden State Collegiate League)
Pade has made three scoreless appearances out of the bullpen, adding a pair of strikeouts with just two hits allowed. He most recently tossed two scoreless innings of relief against the South Bay Storm.
Dalton Schroeder (Woodstock River Bandits – Valley Baseball League)
Schroeder has three doubles and four runs scored in 17 games for the River Bandits. The outfielder put together a three-hit game against the Front Royal Cardinals earlier in the season.
Mark Sluys (Winnepausaukee Muskrats - New England Collegiate Baseball League)
Sluys is batting .333 in 16 games for the Muskrats. The catcher has driven in 12 runs along with a pair of home runs and four doubles.
Will Tomlinson (Orange County Riptide - California Collegiate League)
Tomlinson leads the Riptide with 11 appearances out of the bullpen, adding three saves. The right-hander has racked up 23.2 innings of relief for a 1.90 earned run average.
