Vote Sheridan for TD Ameritrade Fan’s Choice Award

CHICAGO – John Sheridan (Palo Alto, Calif.), a senior outfielder on the Brown baseball team, has been selected as one of 15 finalists for the TD Ameritrade Fan's Choice Award.

The second-annual award recognizes college baseball players who excel beyond the diamond and whose leadership inspires others. The 15 finalists demonstrate integrity in all aspects of life, stay active in their community and are dedicated in the classroom. The winner will be determined by fans through Facebook voting and will be honored at the 2013 TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby. Fans can view profiles of the finalists and vote daily until June 21.

The 15 finalists who embody the characteristics of the TD Ameritrade Fan's Choice Award are: Blake Beemer (Ball State), John Bormann (Texas-San Antonio), Boomer Collins (Dallas Baptist), LB Dantzler (South Carolina), Michael Felton (Campbell), Brian Haggett (Cal State Monterey Bay), Alex Mendez (South Florida), Andy Perez (Duke), Bryan Peters (Nebraska), Dominic Porretta (Otterbein), Raph Rhymes (LSU), Sheridan, John Straka (North Dakota State), Brandon Thomas (Georgia Tech) and Greg Zebrack (USC).

Sheridan, who was also named to the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District Team for the second straight season, capped an impressive four-year career with the Bears. The senior registered 28 hits and scored 13 runs, while leading the team with 12 steals. A former All-Ivy Second Team selection, Sheridan displayed excellent defense in center field and recently broke into the program's all-time top-10 list for stolen bases.

Sheridan, who was named one of 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award prior to the season, is a Public Policy and Economics double concentrator with a 3.7 grade-point-average. This past summer, Sheridan established the BASES program, a nonprofit organization that gives inner-city youth in Providence the opportunity to be part of a baseball team. While he and his Brown teammates teach these youth about baseball, they also teach them about the importance of teamwork, unity, hope and making good decisions. Sheridan is currently finalizing plans to bring the BASES Program to East Palo Alto, California.
