PROVIDENCE, R.I. – In the second doubleheader of a four-game weekend series at Murray Stadium between Brown and Dartmouth, the Big Green came away with two wins, using an offensive explosion to tally a 12-1 win in game one before using a late rally to take game two, 9-5. The Bears are now three games behind Dartmouth for the lead in the Rolfe Division.
Dartmouth (12-15, 7-5) took control of game one early, plating five runs in the first inning before going on to score in each of the next three innings to take a 12-1 lead that held to end of the seven-inning lid-lifter.
Needing a win to stay within a game of the Big Green, Brown jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the third as sophomore catcher Wes Van Boom's (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) two-run single put Bruno ahead, but Dartmouth got four runs in the fourth inning to take a 5-4 lead. Rookie right fielder Will Marcal (Lexington, Mass.) tied the game with a solo shot in the sixth inning, but the Big Green offense came alive again in the eighth, plating four runs.
After Dartmouth's offense garnered 12 runs in the first game, rookie pitcher David St. Lawrence (Thompson, Conn.) faced a tough challenge in game two, but stepped up to the task and held the Big Green to just three earned runs over six innings while striking out two.
Marcal finished the day 3-for-7 with two runs, a triple and a home run while rookie Ross Julian (Dunsable, Mass) went 3-for-6 with a run.
Brown completes its 13-game homestand this Wednesday, April 18, when the Bears take on Holy Cross in a doubleheader starting at 2:30 p.m.
