Marcal Earns Ivy League Rookie of the Week Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown baseball freshman Will Marcal (Lexington, Mass.) earned the first Ivy League honor for the Bears this season, being named the Rookie of the Week. Marcal batted. 429 and slugged .905 for the week and went 4-for-4 in Brown's 13-6 win over Princeton.

Marcal led the Bears at the plate with nine hits, two home runs, four doubles, 10 runs and six RBI over six games. He walked four times and finished with a .520 on-base percentage. He recorded three multi-hit games.

Against Princeton, Marcal recorded three runs, a double, a walk and two RBI. On the mound, Marcal started one game, striking out four over five innings of work in a loss to Princeton.

The left-handed outfielder and pitcher is the first Brown student-athlete to be named Rookie of the Week since sophomore pitcher Anthony Galan shared the award on March 15, 2011. He is the first Brown player to be the sole winner of Rookie of the Week since Brad Kottman on March 16, 2010.

The Bears continue their 13-game homestand tomorrow, Wednesday, April 11, at 3:15 p.m., with a matchup against the UConn Huskies.
