Stockton, Calif. - Brown was able to take an early 4-0 lead against the Pacific Tigers in the first inning, chasing the Pacific starter from the game after just a single out, but the Tigers swung their way back into the game, plating seven runs in the third inning on their way to a 16-6 win.
Even though Brown (1-11) was able to get to the Pacific (8-16) starting pitcher, reliever Chris Larsen came in and threw 6.2 shutout innings, allowing just five hits, striking out three and walking none for the win.
The Tigers boasted two players who tallied four hits in the game as centerfielder Josh Sims went 4-for-5 with three runs and three RBI, and third baseman Dustin Torchio went 4-for-6 with a run and an RBI.
Brown centerfielder John Sheridan (Palo Alto, Calif.) led the way for the Bears, going 2-for-4 with two runs. He was joined by rookie third baseman Nick Fornaca (San Diego, Calif.) who belted his third triple of the season, going 2-for-3. Sophomore second baseman J.J. Franco (New York, N.Y.) continued his recent hot streak going 2-for-3 with a run and a walk.
Brown got the first run of the game as Sheridan scored on a wild pitch. One batter later, sophomore catcher Wes Van Boom (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) put an RBI single through the left side for a 2-0 advantage. Brown tallied another unearned run before Fornaca?s RBI triple put Brown up 4-0.
The lead would last two innings, but in the bottom of the third, the Tigers exploded for seven runs, an advantage they would not relinquish.
Pacific went on to tally one more in the fourth, five in the seventh and three in the eighth for a 16-4 lead.
Brown refused to quit however, loading the bases in the ninth, getting an RBI walk from senior captain Graham Tyler (Cranston, R.I.) and another unearned run before Pacific was finally able to close out the game.
The Bears continue their eight-game West Coast road swing with a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 27, against Santa Clara at 4 p.m., EST.
