Austin, Texas. – The Longhorn offense was firing on all cylinders on Sunday afternoon as No. 5 Texas downed Brown, 11-1 in seven innings. The Brown bats were making contact, tallying seven hits on the game, only three less than Texas' 10, but it was the Longhorns that were able to push the runs across in this one.
After being held scoreless in the first inning, Texas was able to post innings of two, three, two and four runs, while senior pitcher Cole Green struck out 10 for the Longhorns, holding the Bears to the lone run.
Despite getting runners on base in the first three innings, the Bears were not able to move a runner across the plate until the fourth. Senior Pete Greskoff (Paoli, Pa.) led off the frame with a single to center and junior Mike DiBiase (Weston, Mass.) followed suit with a single of his own through the left side. A third single by rookie Daniel Massey (Greensboro, N.C.) loaded the bases for the Bears and a groundout by junior Graham Tyler (Cranston, R.I.) put Brown on the board.
Greskoff finished the day 2-for-3 with a run scored, while DiBiase was a perfect 2-for-2.
Senior pitcher Andrew Bakowski (Stamford, Conn.) entered the game in relief to start the sixth, closing out the game while only allowing one run. Bakowski only gave up three hits while striking out two.
