Baton Rouge, LA – Pepperdine avenged Brown’s
season-opening Friday upset on Saturday night, knocking off the
Bears 19-3 behind a nine-run second inning that blew the game open.
Junior Pete Greskoff led the way for Brown, picking up a pair of
hits in four at bats, and driving in two of the three runs for
The Bears struck the first blow in the contest, picking up a run in the top of the first to go ahead 1-0. Juniors Matt Colantonio and Ryan Zrenda each reached base with one out, putting early pressure on the Waves. Greskoff then hit a single to shallow left field, bringing Colantonio in from second before the inning ended on a double play.
Brown’s 1-0 advantage would hold up until the bottom of the second, when Pepperdine’s potent offense finally broke through. The Waves racked up nine runs on ten hits, including a pair of home runs, as eight of Pepperdine’s starters came up with a hit in the frame.
Bruno answered back with a pair of runs in the third, as Zrenda picked up an RBI double followed by a sacrifice fly from Greskoff, cutting the margin to 9-3. The Bears would not cross the plate again though, as the Waves continued to pile on in the later innings to push the final score to 19-3.
The Bears will be back in action tomorrow, when they take on the LSU Tigers at 2:00 CST.
