Brown women's swimming leads after first day at Ivy Championships

PRINCETON, NJ -- The Brown women's swimming team got off to a quick start after the first day of competition at the Ivy League championships on Thursday, roaring to a 21 point lead over second-place Princeton.

Brown won the first three events of the competition, setting a relay record in the process. In the first event of the meet, the Brown 200-yard freestyle relay team of Dawn Chuck, Emily McCoy, Judy Koonstra, and Liz Daniels dominated the competition to the tune of a 1:32.72 time, breaking a nine-year old meet record.

The Bears kept rolling in the 500-yard freestyle, as freshman Jean Lee edged her Princeton opponent by one-tenth of a second, winning the event in 4:49.39. Brown took the top two spots in the 200-yard Individual Medley, as another freshman, Lindsay Hoban, won the event in 2:03.31, with teammate Judy Koonstra behind her at 2:04.74.

Factoring in the Bears' second-place finish in the 400-medley relay, the Bears opened up a 246 point showing in the first day, 21 points better than Princeton and 30 points ahead of third-place Yale.
