Daniels, Koonstra and Lee Lead Women's Swimming to 215-163 Victory Over Yale

NEW HAVEN, CT - The Brown women's swimming team improved to 9-1 on the season and 6-1 in Ivy League competition with a 215-163 victory Yale to close out the regular season on Friday evening at the Kiphuth Memorial Exhibition Pool.

The Bears claimed 11 of 17 events, including the first four, against Yale en route to a 215-163 victory to close out the regular season with a 9-1 record and 6-1 finish in the Ivy League.

Freshman Jean Lee (Valrico, FL) grabbed first place in the 1000 free with a time of 10:14.67 in addition to a first place finish in the 500 free in 4:58.80.

Fellow classmate Liz Daniels (Pittsburgh, PA) took first place in the 50 free with a time of :24.03 and also won the 100 free in :51.99.

In addition, junior Judy Koonstra (Uxbridge, ONT) won both the 100 and 200 fly events with times of :57.41 and 2:03.76 respectively.

Other first place finishers for the Bears were junior Dawn Chuck (Kingston, Jamaica) who won the 200 free in a time of 1:50.82, freshman Katie Fay (Summit, NJ), who claimed the 100 back in :58.68, and senior Jenn Lears (Towson, MD), who took first in the 400 IM with a time of 4:27.37.

Brown also won both the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay with times of 1:47.33 and 3:26.46 respectively. The 200 medley relay team consisted of Fay, senior Blythe Bygonik (Madison, CT), senior Lauren Pace (Oak Brook, IL), and Daniels. Chuck, Koonstra, Daniels, and freshmen Emily McCoy (Anchorage, AK) represented Brown on the winning 400 free relay team.

The Bears continue action February 22-24 when they travel to Princeton for the 2001 Ivy Championship Meet.
