Men's Swimming Defeats Penn, 134-93

The men's swimming and diving team defeated visiting Penn on Sunday afternoon by a score of 134-93, improving to 3-3 on the season.

The Bears won all 11 swimming events and had at least two swimmers in the top three places of 10 of those 11.

Senior Mike Peters won the 1000 free (9:32.24) and the 500 free (4:44.40), taking second in the 200 fly (1:55.42), just .02 seconds behind winner, freshman Matt DelMastro (1:55.40), who also took third in the 200 IM (1:59.89). Sophomore Maxwell Allen took third in the 500 free (4:49.63).

Senior Gary Plotz won the 50 free (:20.91) and took second in the 100 free (:46.61), while freshman Matt Zimmerman took third (:22.22) in the 50 free and senior Kevin McCann won the 100 free (:46.16).

Senior Jason Weber won the 200 back (1:53.18), while freshman Carlton Cronin took second (1:58.53).

The Bears also had several 1-2-3 finishes on the afternoon, including the 400 medley relay, the 200 free (Jefferson Moors, 1:40.87, Allen, 1:44.75, Weber, 1:45.57), the 200 IM (Aron Gyuris, 1:57.90, Cronin, 1:58.27, DelMastro, 1:59.89), the 200 fly with freshman Timothy Wang (1:59.14) rounding out the group (DelMastro and Peters), and the 200 breast (PJ Santoro, 2:09.60, Greg Bilton, 2:09.93, Brian Wood, 2:10.91).

The Bears continue action on Saturday, February 2, when they compete at Cornell in a 4:30 p.m. meet.
