MT. SUNAPEE, NH/PAT'S PEAK, NH- The Brown women's ski team finished the regular season in fifth place in the Macconnell Division, narrowly missing a shot at finishing the season in third place. In Friday's Giant Slalom race at Mt. Sunapee, the Bears took fourth with a total time of 242.90, holding onto fourth place in the division standings with 31 points, just three behind third place. However, Brown's top skier, junior Kelly O'Hear (Niagara Falls, NY) crashed in Saturday's Slalom at Pat's Peak, bumping Brown back to sixth place in the Slalom events with a total of 320.34 and fifth place in the division with 37 points, just one point behind fourth.
In Friday's Giant Slalom, Brown was led by O'Hear, who won the Giant Slalom with a time of 1:17.98. Sophomore Mallory Taub (Waitsfield, VT) took 14th with a time of 1:21.67, while sophomore Meaghan Casey (Bristol, CT) was 20th with a time of 1:23.25. Freshman Anna Bengtson earned 24th with a time of 1:23.70, while junior Janet Marley-Mauzy (Westport, CT) took 29th with a time of 1:25.43.
In Saturday's Slalom, Brown was led by senior Jamie Johnson (North Kingstown, RI), who took 13th with a time of 1:44.15. Sophomore Sophie Elgort (New York, NY) finished the day in 16th with a time of 1:46.31, while Taub was 23rd with a time of 1:49.88. Marley-Mauzy took 25th with a time of 1:50.81, while Casey was 30th with a time of 1:55.98.
Boston College won the Division with 25 points, while UMass finished in second with 27. Colby Sawyer was third with 29, followed by Plymouth State in fourth with 36, and Brown in fifth with 37.
The Bears continue action February 24-26 when they compete in Regional events. On Friday, O'Hear and Johnson will represent Brown at the EISA Regional Championships at Middlebury for a chance to qualify for the NCAA Championships. On Saturday and Sunday, the team will compete at Waterville Valley, NH in the ECSC Regionals.
