MT. SUNAPEE, NH - The Brown ski team maintained its fourth place position in the MacConnell Division standings with two top-five finishes at the Colby Sawyer Carnival on Saturday and Sunday. In Saturday's slalom, Brown took fourth place, and in Sunday's giant slalom the Bears grabbed third place. With four races left in the season, Brown stands in fourth place, three points behind third-place Plymouth State, and nine points behind second place Boston College.
Brown had a successful weekend, as every single skier finished both of their runs in both the slalom and giant slalom. Senior captain Kelly O'Hear (Niagara Falls, NY) led the Bears both days, finishing in sixth in the slalom (1:57.48) and tying for third in the giant slalom (1:50.05). She also continued her string of being in the top-five at the start of each race, coming in at fifth in the slalom and second in the giant slalom.
In addition to O'Hear, Brown had two other skiers in the top 15 both days, with freshman Elisa Handbury (Sydney, Australia) grabbing 13th in the slalom with a time of 2:01.28 and junior Sophie Elgort (New York, NY) taking 14th in the slalom with a time of 2:02.43. The next day in the giant slalom, sophomore Anna Bengtson (St. Johnsbury, VT) took 10th with a time of 1:51.96, while Handbury earned 15th place with a time of 1:53.22, finishing in the top 15 for the fifth time out of six races.
Rounding out Brown's top five in the slalom were Bengtson in 23rd with a time of 2:04.77 and junior Mallory Taub in 35th with a time of 2:13.67. In Sunday's giant slalom, Elgort took 18th with a time of 1:53.66, while Taub posted a time of 1:57.03 to finish in 29th and round out Brown's top five skiers.
Brown returns to action this weekend when it hosts the slalom races at Wachusett Mountain on Saturday before traveling to Loon Mountain to take part in MIT's giant slalom races.
