Waterville Valley, NH - The Brown women's skiing team moved up from sixth to fourth in the ECSC MacConnell Division with a second place finish in the slalom on day one of the Plymouth State Carnival, and a fourth place finish on day two. Junior Sophie Elgort (New York, NY) and sophomore Anna Bengtson (St. Johnsbury, VT) led the Bears as they finished in ninth and 10th, respectively, on day one, and seventh and 10th, respectively, on day two.
In the first day of competition, senior captain Kelly O'Hear (Niagara Falls, NY) paced three different Brown skiers in the top-15, earning a time of 1:15.64, good for sixth. Elgort took ninth with a time of 1:16.98, while Bengtson was 10th with a time of 1:17.35. Freshman Elisa Handbury (Sydney, Australia) grabbed 25th with a time of 1:22.78, while junior Mallory Taub (Waitsfield, VT) finished right behind her in 26th with a time of 1:22.93. O'Hear continued her string of being in the top five skiers at the start, coming in at 5th.
The next day, the Bears had three skiers in the top-15 again, with Elgort leading the way in seventh with a time of 1:18.23. Handbury finished in eighth place, timing in at 1:19.19, while Bengtson grabbed 10th for the second straight day with a time of 1:20.04. Senior Janet Marley-Mauzy (Westport, CT) posted a time of 1:24.08, good for 20th, while junior Kimberly Casten (Manhattan Beach, CA) rounded out Brown's top five finishers with a time of 1:27.80 to finish in 28th. For the fourth straight time, O'Hear was one of the top five at the start of the race, but she failed to finish her second run of the day.
Brown will look to post its first win of the season this weekend when the Bears travel to Mt. Sunapee, NH on Saturday to take part on the Colby Sawyer Carnival (GS) and to Pat's Peak, NH on Sunday to take part in the St. Anselm Carnival (S).
