Falls and Disqualifications Hurt Bears at Plymouth State Carnival

Waterville Valley, NH - The Brown women's skiing team competed at the Plymouth State Carnival January 21st and 22nd and was hurt by falls and disqualifications to take third in the Slalom and fifth in the Giant Slalom. Highlighting the weekend was junior Kelly O'Hear (Niagara Falls, NY) winning the Slalom for the Bears with a total time of 1:46.05.

In Saturday's Slalom, sophomore Sophie Elgort (New York, NY) tied for 13th with a time of 1:54.40, while junior Janet Marley-Mauzy (Westport, CT) took 15th with a time of 1:55.64. Sophomores Meaghan Casey (Bristol, CT) and Mallory Taub (Waitsfield, VT) rounded out the Bears in the top 30, finishing in 22nd and 24th, respectively.

In Sunday's Giant Slalom, the Bears were hurt by O'Hear's fall. However, Elgort stepped up to finish in 10th with a time of 1:13.93. Marley-Mauzy was right behind in 11th with a time of 1:14.00, while senior Jamie Johnson (North Kingstown, RI) finished in fifth with a time of 1:15.03. Taub rounded out the Bears in the top 30 with a 17th-place finish in the Giant Slalom.

Brown will look to get back on the winning track this weekend when it hosts the Brown Carnival (Slalom) at Wachusett Mountain on Saturday, January 28th.
