Mount Cranmore, NH - Freshman Krista Consiglio (Bethany, CT) continued the fast start to her collegiate career at the UConn Carnival, winning Friday's giant slalom race and taking second in Saturday's slalom race. For the weekend, the Bears finished second in the giant slalom and fifth in the slalom.
On Friday, Consiglio's time of 2:20.55 was nearly two seconds faster than the second place finisher, as she led three different Brown skiers in the top 15. Sophomore Elisa Handbury (Sydney, Australia) was 12th with a time of 2:26.16, while senior Sophie Elgort (New York, NY) took 13th with a time of 2:26.58. Four of Brown's next five finishers were all in the top 40 as junior Anna Bengtson (St. Johnsbury, VT) placed 16th with a time of 2:26.89 and freshman Blaine Martin (Salt Lake City, UT) was 23rd with a time of 2:28.01. Seniors Meaghan Casey (Bristol, CT), Mallory Taub (Waitsfield, VT), and Kimberly Casten (Manhattan Bach, CA) rounded out the next three Brown finishers in 26th, 37th, and 43rd place, respectively.
On Saturday's slalom, Consiglio's time of 1:28.36 was just .3 seconds off of first place as she was the only Brown skier to finish in the top-15. Bengtson was 26th with a time of 1:45.00, while Martin was 28th with a time of 1:45.70. Elgort took 31st with a time of 1:46.72, while Handbury was 34th with a time of 1:48.28.
The Bears are back in action this Saturday and Sunday when they travel to Waterville Valley in New Hampshire to take part in the Plymouth State Carnival. Slalom races will be Saturday, while the giant slalom will take place on Sunday.
