Winter Academic All-Ivy Announced

Providence, RI- The Ivy League released its winter list of Academic All-Ivy honorees, with ten Brown student-athletes being recognized. The five males and five females were starters or key reserves on their respective varsity teams and carry a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average.

Brown Skiing Claims Third at USCSA National Championships; Earn Highest Finish Since 2005 when Brown was Second
The Brown women's skiing team closed out it season with a third place overall finish at the 2010 USCSA National Championships, held at Sunday River, Maine from March 1-6. The third place finish is Brown's highest since the 2005 season when Brown was second, as the Bears were the highest-placing team from the East Coast, finishing behind Westminster College and Sierra Nevada College. Brown earned a third place finish in the giant slalom, behind Westminster College and Sierra Nevada College, and was fourth in the slalom, finishing behind Westminster College, Sierra Nevada College, and Boston College.

Bears Finish in 5th at USCSA Eastern Regionals; Qualify for Nationals
The Brown women's ski team claimed fourth in the slalom and fifth in the giant slalom to finish in fifth overall at the 2010 USCSA Eastern Regional Championships, held at Waterville Valley from February 20-21. In Saturday's slalom, Brown posted a total team time of 294.05, as junior Krista Consiglio (Bethany, CT) senior Elisa Handbury (Sydney, Australia), and freshman Catherine Stewart (Stratton, VT) were the Bears' top three skiers. In Sunday's giant slalom, Brown's total time of 392.29 was fifth, as sophomore Emily Simmons (Buffalo, NY), sophomore Kia Mosenthal (Plymouth, NH), and Stewart posted the Bears' top three times. By virtue of Brown's top-six finish, the Bears have qualified for a trip to Nationals, which will be held March 1-6 at Sunday River in Maine.

The Caymans (and Brown’s) First Olympic Skier
The Cayman Islands are known for their white beaches, all-inclusive resorts, and year-round warm sunny weather. The islands have sent a delegation to every Summer Olympic Games since 1984, but given its location, climate, and population, it isn’t too surprising that there has never been an Caymanian who has competed in the Winter Games. Dow Travers ’11 is about to change that.
