Skiing Places First in Giant Slalom at Castleton Carnival

QUEENSBURY, N.Y. – The Brown ski team placed first in the giant slalom and third in the slalom at the Castleton Carnival on Saturday, Jan. 21 and Sunday, Jan. 22 at West Mountain.

Brown defeated Babson by 0.12 to claim first place in the giant slalom on Saturday. Senior Natalie Pearl (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) was the team's top finisher in sixth place at 1:41.95. Seniors Ali Gunesch (Sandy, Ore.) (1:42.13) and Sylvie Bertrand (Hanover, N.H.) (1:42.27) followed in seventh and eighth, respectively. Junior Lauren Stobierski (South Deerfield, Mass.) finished in the top-20 in 19th place with a time of 1:45.48.

In the slalom, the Bears finished third with Pearl leading the way with a second-place finish (1:48.82) while Gunesch finished in fourth (1:49.49).

The Bears will next race at Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid, N.Y. on Friday, Jan. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 28.
