WILDCAT MOUNTAIN – The Brown women's ski team picked up its third win of the 2011 season on Saturday afternoon, earning 1st place in the slalom held at Wildcat Mountain. The race ended up being the final regular season race for 2011, as Sunday's giant slalom race was cancelled due to dangerous weather conditions at the mountain on Sunday. With the win, Brown moved into a tie for third place in the season standings with 28 points. Colby Sawyer also finished with 28 points, while BC finished with 18 and Plymouth State with 24.
Brown was impressive from across the board, with three skiers finishing in the top six to help the team secure first place. Junior Kia Mosenthal (Plymouth, NH) claimed third place overall with a total time of 1:32.50, while freshman Emma Leblanc (Darien, CT) earned fifth place with a total time of 1:32.87. Senior Krista Consiglio (Bethany, CT) rounded out Brown's top-three finishers, taking sixth place with a total time of 1:33.07.
The middle of Brown's lineup also turned in strong results, with the next three skiers all finishing in the top 31. Junior Emily Simmons (Buffalo, NY) earned 19th with a total time of 1:37.16, while sophomore Andrea Radke (St. Louis Park, MN) posted a total time of 1:38.32 to finish in 22nd. Sophomore Sasha Sassoon (London, Endland) had her highest finish of the season, taking 31st with a two-run time of 1:43.39.
Brown will travel to Waterville Valley February 19-20 to take part in the USCSA Eastern Regional Championships.
