Providence, RI - Freshman Alicia Sacramone (Winchester, MA) and sophomore Jennifer Sobuta (Maynard, MA) have qualified to compete in the NCAA Regionals at the University of Michigan on Saturday, April 14.
Sacramone, the ECAC Rookie of the Year, has posted high scores of a 9.9 on vault, 9.85 on bars, 9.875 on beam, 9.925 on the floor and 39.45 in the all-around. In addition, she has set school records on the vault, floor and also in the all-around. Sacramone became the first gymnast in the history of the Ivy League to finish first on every event en route to winning the all-around competition at the Ivy Classic. Her stellar performance at the Classic also set a new tournament record in the all-around (39.25) and tied the Ivy Classic record on the vault (9.875) as well.
Sobuta has been a strong competitor for the Bears all season long. Although she competes all-around for Brown, she has qualified for the NCAA Regionals on the beam. A consistent performer, Sobuta earned a 9.75 on the beam in back-to-back meets (Jan. 28 and Feb. 3), and just a few weeks later notched a career-high 9.8. After her performance, Sobuta received ECAC Gymnast of the Week honors on Feb. 21. Sobuta is the second alternate in the all-around for the Northeast Regionals.
Brown's Sacramone, Sobuta, freshmen Alanna Kwoka (San Mateo, CA) and Izzy Kirkham-Lewitt (Venice, CA) have all qualified in the all-around for USAG Collegiate Nationals at Seattle Pacific University on April 19-21.
