Three Brown Gymnasts Qualify for USAG Collegiate Nationals

Providence, RI - Brown gymnasts Jennifer Sobuta (Maynard, MA), Chelsey Binkley (Marietta, GA), and Victoria Zanelli (Katy, TX) have each qualified for the USAG Collegiate Nationals, April 16-19 at Centenary College in Shreveport, LA.

Sobuta, a First-Team All-Ivy Classic selection and Ivy Champion on the bars, and a First-Team All-Ivy Classic selection in the all-around, has been Brown's most consistent performer this season. She holds a personal best score of 9.775 on the bars, which is Brown's fourth highest bar score in the history of the program. Sobuta has also turned in a personal best 9.825 beam performance, as well as a 9.625 on vault, 9.6 on floor and 38.2 in the all-around. She was named ECAC Gymnast of the Week on Jan. 30 and Feb. 28 this season. In 2007, Sobuta was an NCAA Regional qualifier and USAG Collegiate Nationals qualifier.

Both Zanelli and Binkley have been relied on heavily this season, as they contributed immediately as freshmen. Zanelli is one of Brown's top performers on the bars with a personal best of 9.6. She also holds personal bests of 9.625 on the floor, a 9.55 on vault, a 9.450 on the beam, and a 37.825 in the all-around. She earned ECAC Rookie of the Week honors on March 19.

Binkley, Brown's top performer on the floor exercise, holds a season high of 9.65 on that event. She earned personal bests of 9.450 on the bars and 9.475 on the vault during the Ivy Classic at Cornell. Her top all-around score is a 37.25. Binkley earned ECAC Rookie of the Week honors on Jan. 29, after competing all-around for the first time in her collegiate career during Brown's second meet of the year.

The USAG Collegiate National preliminaries are held on Thursday, April 16, and event finals are scheduled for Saturday, April 19. Sobuta, Binkley and Zanelli can earn All-American status by qualifying for event finals.
