Providence, RI - Brown sophomore Victoria Zanelli (Katy, TX) has recently been selected to compete at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Nationals from April 9-11 at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, CT. Sophomore Chelsey Binkley (Marietta, GA) has also been selected to compete as an alternate for the floor exercise.
Zanelli will compete in the preliminary round at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, and has a chance to qualify for event finals at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 11. If Zanelli qualifies for event finals, she will be named a USAG All-American.
This season, Zanelli has been one of Brown's most consistent all-around performer, and has tied three career high scores with a 9.725 on the bars, a 9.575 on the beam and an all-around score of 38.000. Zanelli earned Second Team All-Ivy Classic honors on the bars, beam and in the all-around. She placed fourth on the bars with a 9.675, scored a 9.550 on the beam for fifth place, and combined for a 37.625 for fourth place in the all-around during the Ivy Classic.
Binkley earned First Team All-Ivy Classic honors after earning a 9.750 on the floor exercise, and was named the ECAC Gymnast of the Week on February 11. She helped lead the Bears to its highest team score since 2004 with a 189.575 to defeat Bridgeport that week. She not only earned the floor exercise title, but she had a personal best 9.825 on the event, which is the fourth-highest floor score in Brown history. She also posted personal bests on the vault (9.575 - 4th), and beam (9.625 - 5th).
