Providence, RI - The Brown gymnastics team is set to host West Chester at 6:00 p.m. on Friday night in its final home meet of the 2009 season. Brown will also be honoring its two seniors, Jennifer Sobuta (Maynard, MA) and Whitney Diederich (Naperville, IL) who are competing in the Pizzitola Sports Center for the last time.
Sobuta and Diederich have helped the Bears to its highest finish since 2002 in the Ivy Classic this season as Brown combined for a 188.400 to finish above UPenn and Yale. First Team All-Ivy Classic honors were awarded to sophomore Vida Rivera (Jackson Heights, NY), who earned the uneven bar title with a 9.750, as well as junior Helen Segal (Los Altos, CA) with a 9.775 for the floor exercise title. Freshman Katie Goddard (Kings Park, NY) and sophomore Chelsey Binkley (Marietta, GA) also picked up First Team accolades after the two posted scores of a 9.750 on the floor exercise.
Brown's Victoria Zanelli (Katy, TX) earned Second Team honors on the bars, beam and in the all-around, and freshman Lauren Tucker (Farmington Hills, MI) picked up Second Team honors on the beam. After the Bears gave such a great performance, Segal was named the ECAC Rookie of the Week and Rivera earned the ECAC Coaches Choice Award.
The Bears have already defeated West Chester earlier this season during a tri-meet hosted by the Golden Rams, combining for a 185.250 to West Chester's 178.300.
