Helen Segal and Vida Rivera Earn ECAC Gymnastics Honors

March 5, 2009

Providence, RI - Junior Helen Segal (Los Altos, CA) was named the ECAC Rookie of the Week and sophomore Vida Rivera (Jackson Heights, NY) earned the ECAC Coaches Choice Award after helping the Brown gymnastics team to its highest finish since 2002 (2nd place) at the Ivy Classic last weekend.

Segal had an outstanding weekend for the Bears, earning First Team All-Ivy Classic honors after turning in a 9.775 on the floor exercise to win the title. Segal also posted a 9.3 on the vault.

Rivera was named to the First Team All-Ivy Classic after winning the uneven bar title with a career-high 9.750. Due to injuries, Rivera has focused mainly on her bar routines this year and it all came together for her during the Classic. She was determined to help her squad and turned in her best routine of her collegiate career. Her score held through two more rotations and she became the Ivy Classic's bar champion.

The Bears are back in action at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, March 13 when they host West Chester before heading to the ECAC Championships at Yale on Saturday, March 21st.
