Junior gymnast Jessica Pouchet (Miami, FL) was honored by the ECAC for her performance this weekend in Brown's opening meets. Pouchet received the Coaches Choice, which is given to a gymnast who had a strong performance for her team even if it wasn't the top scoring performance for that event. Pouchet's performance this weekend stood out for her team first attitude and overcoming a serious injury to get where she is today.
Pouchet tore her Achilles tendon last year in December and was out for the season. She spent first semester this year studying in Spain. After only one week of practice, Pouchet came through for the team and warmed up on bars for the Bears at Berkeley. Pouchet competed and hit her routine for a 9.225. Two days later, with a couple injuries keeping a few girls out of the line-up in Sacramento, Pouchet offered to warm up for vault, bars and floor. She competed all three and hit a 9.075 on vault, 8.7 on bars and 9.05 on floor to help the team. All her scores were counted toward the team total.
Pouchet and the Bears will return to action Sunday, January 23, when they will host Southern Connecticut, MIT and Ithaca for a 1:00 p.m. start.
