Brown Gymnastics Tops West Chester 188.350-179.400

Providence, RI - The Brown gymnastics team came out fired up for senior night and dominated West Chester 188.350-179.400 during its final home meet at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Friday evening. Brown won every event this evening while the Bears locked up first through fourth place finishes in each of the four events.

In its first event of the night, Brown came out strong to combine for a 47.075. Freshman Carli Wiesenfeld (Atlanta, GA) led the team with a 9.525 to earn the title, and freshman Lauren Tucker (Farmington Hills, MI) and sophomore Chelsey Binkley (Marietta, GA) followed right behind with a 9.425 for second place. Junior Helen Segal (Los Altos, CA) put up a personal best score of a 9.400 for fourth and freshman Lilly Siems (Baltimore, MD) tallied a 9.300 for fifth place.

Brown gave a solid effort on the bars to tally a 46.000 and again locked up first through fifth place. This time it was sophomore Victoria Zanelli (Katy, TX) leading the way with a 9.650 for first, as Siems posted a personal record of 9.475 for second. Junior Izzy Kirkham-Lewitt (Venice, CA) earned third place with a 9.225 and sophomore Vida Rivera (Jackson Heights, NY) scored a 9.100 for fourth. Senior Jennifer Sobuta (Maynard, MA) earned the fifth spot with an 8.950.

The Bears were stellar on the beam, combining for a 47.225. Binkley and Sobuta led the way with a 9.500 to earn first place, followed by Tucker in third with a 9.475. Zanelli scored a 9.425 for fourth place while Siems posted a 9.324 for fifth.

In its final and best event of the night, Brown totaled a 47.650 on the floor exercise and was led by Segal's 9.725. Binkley garnered second with a solid 9.700 and freshman Katie Goddard (Kings Park, NY) came in third with a 9.500. Tucker finished in fourth for Bruno with a 9.375 effort and was followed by senior Whitney Diederich (Naperville, IL) in sixth with a 9.350. Zanelli earned the all-around title in tonight's meet, compiling a 37.375. In second was West Chester's Alli Aquila with a 34.325.

The Bears will now get ready to compete at the ECAC Championships hosted at Yale University at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 21.
