Providence, RI - Led by freshman Alicia Sacramone's (Winchester, MA) first-place finish in every event, the Brown gymnastics team defeated Southern Connecticut State University 185.225-183.750 on Sunday afternoon.
As a team, the Bears defeated the Owls on the vault (46.175-46.125), the bars (46.175-44.750), and also on the floor (47.200-46.650). Although the Bears' earned the first and second sports on the beam, the Owls came out on top, defeating Brown 46.225-45.675.
Receiving first-place on every event, Sacramone received a 9.725 on the vault, a 9.675 on the bars, a 9.725 on the beam and a 9.875 on the floor. She also won the all-around with a 39.000.
On the vault, the Owls' Robin Underwood secured second place with a 9.450, but the Bears' sophomore Jennifer Sobuta (Maynard, MA) and freshman Alanna Kwoka (San Mateo, CA) tied for third with a 9.425.
After Sacramone's stellar 9.875 on the floor, SCSU's Bethany Jeffords placed second with a 9.525, but Brown's Kirkham-Lewitt placed third with a 9.500.
In the all-around, Sacramone placed first with a 39.000, followed by second-place finisher Sobuta with a 37.600. The Owls' Erika Pysh placed third with a 37.475 and Kwoka earned fourth with a 36.850.
The Bears will compete at home for the last time at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 18, when they take on the University of Pennsylvania and Southern Connecticut.
